A Crystal Surprise

I came back to Halifax from Cape Breton to find a surprise waiting for me in my studio. I use a solution of salt and vinegar to pickle my soldered items and while I was away salt crystals grew up the side and out of my pickle pot. Amazing!

I think the crystals are such a beautiful shade of turquoise green due to traces of copper in my pickling solution.

Speaking of crystals. I have been designing a pendant commission and as a result I took a photo of some of my raw crystals, geodes and ammonites yesterday. Most of these I acquired at the Parrsboro Gem and Mineral show in lovely Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.
