I think I may have mentioned at some point that I was going to be an artist in residence at Salty Rose's studio in Ingonish, Cape Breton. Well, the time has come and I have been officially in residence for a few days now. I took a little time to set up, get acquainted with the space and do some reading. So far this has been a wonderful, peaceful space to get away, sit quietly, write and create.
I am very thankful that Caitlyn Purcell and Sarah Burwash invited me to be a part of their fantastic and exciting new venture. This time and space is invaluable to me. Not to mention that fact that it places me close to my extended family and one of the industries I am exploring in my MFA thesis.
While commuting by bike or foot between my resting place and my working space I have been taking note of things that catch my eye as well as the spaces I vividly remember from my childhood summers spent here in Ingonish with my cousins, aunts and uncles and grandparents. I feel fortunate to find my roots in such a magical place.
